How to get started 

Readers in Bloom supports primary-aged children from Prep to Year 6.

Sessions are held in my home-based clinic in Manly West or online. Sessions are offered during school hours, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and follow the Queensland State School 10-week term calendar.For many children, school hours are an ideal time for literacy intervention, when they are fresh, focused and ready to learn.

Additional sessions may be available during the school holidays upon request and subject to availability. Sessions do not occur on public holidays.

Most children attend once a week and meaningful progress can be made with consistent weekly intervention.  For children who require more intensive support, twice-weekly sessions may be recommended.

This is tricky to answer as children progress at their own rate. Some children may make significant progress towards their initial goals within 6-8 months, while others – particularly children with significant literacy difficulties may benefit from longer-term support.Progress is formally reviewed after approximately 6-8 months of consistent intervention. Learning goals are then adjusted based on your child’s progress and ongoing needs.You will receive an updated report outlining progress and recommendations at no additional cost.

You will receive a brief update by email following each lesson outlining the skills and concepts covered, along with short targeted practice activities to complete at home.Your child’s progress is also formally reviewed after approximately 6-8 months of consistent intervention. Learning goals are then adjusted based on your child’s progress and ongoing needs.You will receive an updated report outlining progress and recommendations at no extra cost.

Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) is an approach to literacy instruction that shares many of the principles of Orton-Gillingham, including explicit, systematic, structured and sequential instruction.A typical lesson incorporates phonological and phonemic awareness, handwriting, reading, spelling, vocabulary, morphology and writing, ensuring students build strong and lasting literacy foundations. Students engage multiple senses by seeing, hearing, saying and doing to consolidate learning.

No. Your child does not need a formal diagnosis to work with me.MSL is particularly beneficial for children with dyslexia, dysgraphia and other learning differences; however, its explicit, systematic and cumulative approach can benefit all learners.

Yes, I provide short, targeted practice activities to reinforce skills taught during the lesson. Regular practice between sessions can help children consolidate new learning and build confidence.

No. The initial assessment is a comprehensive literacy assessment and does not diagnose dyslexia.Where dyslexia is suspected, a period of evidence-based literacy intervention can provide valuable information about a child’s learning profile and response to instruction. A formal dyslexia diagnosis should be sought from a suitably qualified psychologist or speech pathologist.At Readers in Bloom, we provide high-quality, evidence-based literacy intervention designed to address the underlying difficulties affecting reading, spelling and writing.

Readers in Bloom does not currently accept NDIS funding.

One cancellation is permitted per school term, provided at least 8 hours’ notice is given. A make-up session will be offered for this cancellation, subject to availability.
